Craig and I had the opportunity to escape for a few days to Cabo San Lucas over the first weekend of April. Since we took the kids with us to Hawaii this year we decided to take a quick trip just the two of us to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Craig booked and all-inclusive resort, The RIU Palace. We flew out early Thursday morning, April 3rd and got to our resort in Cabo by 3:00 that afternoon, after a very long wait at customs. After checking in we got changed and checked out the resort. Our first stop was the buffet of course and then to check out the pools and beach. That evening we went to the Japanese restaurant for dinner, the evenings were a little chilly so both of us had pants and a light jacket on. The days weren't super hot, but as long as the sun was shining it felt great.
Friday we tried to sleep in and then headed to the gym, if I had one complaint about the resort it was how tiny their gym was. We then grabbed breakfast at the buffet and then got ready to head to the pool. We went for a walk along the beach and read books, drank virgin pina coladas and diet Pepsi's (sadly no coke), ate so much food and just enjoyed not having a schedule. That evening we went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner.
On Saturday Craig scheduled us a sailing and snorkeling trip. I had never been on a sail boat before so that was pretty cool. We went and checked out the arches and lover's beach and then headed to a cove to snorkel. The snorkeling wasn't great but we had fun paddle boarding and jumping off the boat. They fed us snacks and lunch and we made it back to the resort in time for a second lunch of tacos. After a shower we headed to the Steakhouse for dinner. I was a little nauseous at this point, which is fairly normal, so I didn't eat that much. By the time we made it back to the room my stomach was really uncomfortable. I just laid in bed in a ball as we watched t.v. I eventually had to take a zofran because my nausea had gotten so bad, but sadly that didn't help. I spent most of the night in the bathroom. I hadn't been that uncomfortable in a very long time. I spent most of Sunday in our room as well, because I just felt awful. It was definitely food poisoning, but not sure what from. I eventually made it out of the room late Sunday afternoon to sit by the pool for a little bit to read. So Craig was on his own for the day. That evening Craig just went to the buffet for dinner and he said that might have been the best dinner he had the whole time. Because we were flying out the next day I did not want to test my GI tract so I opted not to eat, not that I was hungry.
I luckily slept much better Sunday night and was feeling ok by Monday morning. We got packed up and checked out and then headed for the airport. By this point I had eaten part of a banana and half a bagel so I was very tired and weak but luckily we were just sitting most of the day. Traveling of course was very easy and besides my stomach issues we had a wonderful time. It was nice to have a weekend together with no worries and really even being sick was a little bit easier because I didn't have to worry about the kids at all. For all the of times that I have been to Mexico (at least 15), this is the first time I have ever gotten sick there.
Our kids did fabulous of course while we were gone. They stayed mostly at Craig's parents, but then also stayed with Missy one night and hung with her family for most of a day. They got to have sleep overs with two sets of cousins, so it was a win for them. We will definitely go back again and maybe even bring the kids!
