Winter Wasteland

It was not much of a winter in Idaho, we got very little snow and it was quite a timid winter. Like so little snow that we only got up on the mountain once to ski.  We made it up to McCall twice over Christmas break hoping to ski 3 or 4 times, but because the snow was so minimal, we only made it up once.  Hopefully the kids will still remember how to ski next year.  At the start of December, Brooklyn and I headed to San Diego for a soccer tournament. It was a quick trip, we flew in Friday afternoon, Brooklyn played 2 games on Saturday and then we flew out bright and early Sunday morning. While we were gone, Craig and McKay went to the Mountain West championship game at BSU.  They had a blast, BSU won and McKay didn't get lost on the field during the celebration, so that was a major win.

We spent a lot of our winter in gyms for the kids basketball.  Brooklyn played school ball, the 7th and 8th grade girls played together and she made the B team.  They only lost one game all season and they had a blast.  She then played AAU through the YMCA, the team wasn't quite as well organized, but it is still always good to get your hands on the ball.  McKay jumped in head first into his first club sport season with Mustang Basketball.  It was a last minute decision to have him tryout at the end up the summer, but we decided to give it a try.  The cost wasn't too high and he had a great coach, so we ended up being really glad we did it.  I feel like his understanding of the game grew so much.  They started practice in October and then tournaments in December.  They usually did 2-3 tournaments each month, no regular season games.  They didn't win any tournaments, but they definitely got better as the season went along.  McKay didn't have a lot of points, but he would out hustle every other player on the court.  It was fun to watch both of them.  Brooklyn also had soccer practice start in February so she was doing double duty with both basketball and soccer for about 6 weeks.  Sadly, I was terrible at taking pictures of their basketball.  McKay had the month of March off of sports, which I feel allowed us some breathing room.  We spent a decent amount of time outside going for walks or taking the electric scooters out.

McKay also got to experience his first pinewood derby.  His Activity group at church put one together.  They spent quite a few activities getting their cars ready and then had a Derby.  McKay's car was right in the middle of the pack, he had a lot of fun with it though.  Brooklyn got her braces off, she only had them on for 11 months.  She looks so grown up with them off.
