Well this last month has been an interesting one.  Both kids got a bad cold for about 4 days, McKay then cut 2 teeth. Then after being snotty for over week he got an ear infection.  He was then on antibiotics for 10 days but still wasn't totally back to himself.  This whole time he hasn't been sleeping as well and just wasn't super happy.  He had a couple really awful nights in a row so I took him back to the doctor and he ended up having a double ear infection.  This time they gave him a different antibiotic and it worked much better.  After a few days he was back to his cheerful self.  It was definitely a long couple of weeks for all of us.  Craig and I were barely getting any sleep and I ended up getting pretty sick for a few days.  I'm just glad it is all over and he is smiling and giggling again.  Besides getting 2 teeth this month he also started solid foods.  So far he has tried rice cereal, sweet potatoes, bananas, and carrots.  He does pretty well with all of those.  He is very interested in food and you can tell he always wants to eat our food.  Now that we are passed all of the ear infections he is finally sleeping better again.  We will feed him last bottle around 8:00 pm and then lay him down.  I will then feed him a bottle sometime between 4:45 and 6:30 am and then he will go back to sleep until about 8:00 am.  He is now down to 3 naps. He lays down for a cat nap around 10:00 that will last 30-45 minutes, he will then lay down again around 1:00 for his "big" nap which will last an hour and a half to two hours typically, his last nap is then around 5:00 and it is usually only about 30 minutes.  Not the best napper in the world, but he does ok.  Luckily Brooklyn will do about 45 minutes of quite time while McKay does his big nap so it gives me a little bit of time to myself.  Most moms would use this time to get things done, but most of the time I sit on the couch and watch a show.

For being such a happy and smiley baby he hates going to the child watch at the gym.  I usually can only get about 40 minutes of a workout in and I usually have to go in to calm him down once during that time.  I don't know what his deal his, but it is really obnoxious and I am really tired of it.  My workout is my "me time" and it just isn't the same if I am worrying about them coming to get me or if I workout at home and try to squeeze it in during a nap and trying to entertain Brooklyn at the same time.  Hopefully it will get better soon because I would really like to get back into teaching classes, but I'm not going to be able to do that until he will cooperate with the ladies at the gym.

He is so close to rolling over.  He could totally do it, but he really just doesn't care.  He is way more interested in sitting up and I think he will get that soon as well.  He has some nasty eczema on his cheeks, chin, elbows and legs.  So far what we have tried has not worked.  Hopefully the doctor can get us something that will help, it looks so uncomfortable and painful.  One thing that is really quite funny is that he thinks it is hilarious to get undressed.  Anytime I undress him for his bath or to change his diaper and just to change his clothes, he just giggles and giggles.  He has started sitting in his Bumbo and playing in his saucer a lot the last few weeks.  He does pretty good and will be content for 10 -15 minutes so that I can get a few things done.  Brooklyn is still a big helper and a great big sister.  While I was not a big fan of his awful sleeping, I sure do love this sweet little boy.  His smile really does just light up my day, you just can't help but smile back.

  1. Hi Katie! I'm procrastinating writing my blog post and finally catching up on reading others. I feel so bad about the gym thing. :( That's the worst. My second child, sage, was a lot like that. Luckily there was one lady that knew she just needed to be bounced hard, like a crazy person, and she'd fall asleep. It was a rough patch though. I am all about my *almost* daily gym time for my sanity. My kids get eczema pretty badly too. I've found one natural ointment that works well called "tubby todd". We use that when it's really bad and then the normal tubby todd lotion for everyday. There is also a company called Melaleuca that has a lotion that works well too. I hated using lots of steroids on my kids. I've used the tubby todd products with my # 2, 3 since they were born and their skin is much much better. Hope some of that is helpful!
